1/2-Inch Heavy Glass: How It's Built
Every enclosure we fabricate at this tier uses 1/2" tempered safety glass — up to four times stronger than annealed glass, and the AGG standard for premium walk-in and curbless installs. Lighter frameless work runs in 3/8" tempered; heavy glass steps the spec up. The added mass is what designers respond to: a 1/2" panel weighs roughly 6.5 pounds per square foot and reads as one solid plane of glass with no visible deflection.
Mounting is structural. Wall-anchored hinge clips, U-channel, and clamp hardware carry the panel weight, so the supporting wall needs studs or solid blocking behind the tile — 1/2" panels are unforgiving on hollow walls. Our residential default is CRL (C.R. Laurence) clamp and channel hardware, sized for 1/2" panels and corrosion-resistant for the Grand Strand's salt-air environment.
The 1/2" spec pairs naturally with low-iron glass on premium baths surrounded by marble or natural stone — low-iron eliminates the green tint that's more visible at this thickness. Every enclosure is fabricated to the exact bathroom opening. No kit sizes.
