How a Pivot Door Swings — and Where It Fits Best
The mechanics are simple and exacting. Instead of an edge-mounted butt hinge, a pivot door rides on two pivot points — head and sill mount — set inboard from the leading edge. The panel rotates around its own offset axis, and that's what gives the configuration its defining feature: it opens both directions. Wide-entry walk-ins, accessible baths, and openings where a single-direction arc would overlap a vanity or fixture are where the swing earns its place.
We fabricate pivot doors in 3/8" frameless tempered as the residential standard and step the spec up to 1/2" heavy glass for premium and designer-spec installs — a signature designer-bath move. Heavy Glass with Inline Panel → Hardware is CRL (C.R. Laurence) pivot hinges — center-hung head and sill mount, sized and load-rated for the panel. The configuration pairs naturally with an inline panel for taller openings and with a fixed splash panel for walk-in entries; standalone is the right call when the opening is narrower and the two-direction swing is the whole point. Compared with edge-hinged variants, the trade is a tighter sealing footprint for the wider arc — both are AGG products, configuration-driven.
